No discernable carbonation. No discernable aroma. Starts dry with very slight nutty flavor. Short finish with light malt fade. No discernable hop presence. Light to medium bodied. This beer has very little flavor, almost like water. A mediocre offering.
kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Nov 27, 2008 Cask @ Magnolia’s. Pours a deep, clear black-cherry color; creamy, light-tan head with gorgeous retention and fine-bubbled lacing; great pour. Soft aroma of milk chocolate, overripe red fruits, and toffee; a touch light. Light-to-medium mouthfeel: a touch watery on the edges; chocolate, light coffee, and a touch of acidic red fruit; a bit under-concentrated, but very drinkable. Medium mouthfeel: toasty grains, light chocolate and coffee; balanced end. Hophead22 (358), Redlands, California, USA Sep 21, 2008 Cask at the brewery. Great looking beer, nice dark red color. Good drinker as well at only 4.8%. Pretty good. bb (2223), Martinez, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 Draft. Ruby beer with a light cream colored head. Toffee, caramel, malt, burnt sugar aroma. Light roasty, caramel, toffee flavor with a slight astringency. Medium-light body. Lingering toffee, caramel, and grain. Wonderful aroma, but can’t follow through. SoLan (1188), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 31, 2008 Cask at Magnolia. Clear, dark ruby. Small off white head. Raw, wet grains, mild toast, some bitterness, and a touch of sweetness. Medium/light body, smooth and easy to drink. Decent.
DuffMan (2124), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 25, 2007 On tap at the brewpub in San Francisco. Clear amber brown. Caramel aroma, a little bready. Moderately sweet caramel malt, perhaps a faintly fruity quality, but pretty straightforward actually. Low-key, but not unpleasant. Mouthfeel is a little thin.
