Commercial Description:
This rich, ruby-hued ale has a sweet, fruity maltiness with a lingering hop and malt finish. There is a faint coffee-like roastiness as well as a hint of black cherries.

On cask... Nice English Mild. Slight roasted flavors. Surprising body for such a small beer. Nearly imperceptible hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma. Slightly funky aftertaste that I can’t put my finger on, but most likely due to their yeast. It’s a common complaint that I have with Magnolia’s beers. Overall nice and drinkable. One of Magnolia’s better beers.

I consistently try the Cask Conditioned version... never been disappointed. Aroma: Wonderful English Hops with a little malt Appearance: Ruby and Copper pours with a small head Flavor: I seem to pick up some cherries with a hop and malt flavors Palate: Medium-light body, finishes slightly dry... just making me want another pint Overall: An excellent example of a cask-conditioned bitter... What a treat if you like session beers... reinforces my opinion Dave Maclean makes absolutely incredible English Style Beers bar none... a brewer and brew pub a must visit in SF

Cask at the brewery. Great looking beer, nice dark red color. Good drinker as well at only 4.8%. Pretty good.

On tap at the San Francisco "Brews on the Bay" Festival. Dark copper pour, off white head. Very clean aroma, whiffs of citrus. Flavor has some deleicate underlying biterness with hints of citrus and molasses. Smooth mouthfeel. Good session material.
