Commercial Description:
Our most popular dark beer is a hearty, chewy oatmeal stout (8% oats in the grist). Lots of body, as you would expect coming from the West Coast oatmeal stout tradition. The dark, roasted character is caramel- and chocolatelike with a decided smoothness. Hops are, again, an assortment, and come across mostly in flavor and aroma, not bitterness.

Pours black with a dark-brown head (I’m excited already). Flavor is coffee and burnt malt. Just by the smell I know there is a huge quantity of black patent... My tongue drips in anticipation. Flavor is just as I expected huge burnt coffee, flavor is balanced by the full body and sweetness. I was expecting the mouthfeel to be a little silkier since they call this an OATMEAL stout but still REALLY DAMN GOOD!

Draft. Pitch black pour with a creamy tan head. toasted malt, dough and chocolate aroma. Rich and creamy with some slight chocolate flavors. Dry and somewhat dusty with a nice even, toasted malt body. Clean finish.

Tap. Black opaque with a dark brown head. Maple toffee and coffee aroma. Dry sweet mouthfeel with a grainy texture. Hops in ending, with a very nice well balnced body. (June 2004).
