austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Dec 4, 2004 Tap @ Waterfront Ale House. Absolutely delicious. I could drink gallons of this stuff. Mild, light, with just enough malt to be a schwarzbier. Touch of roast, also evident in the nose. Creamy beige head. drpimento (518), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Dec 20, 2005 Beer pours beautifully! Very big frothy & foamy textured head that lasts and lasts. Very good, smooth mouth feel. Dryish and satisfying, but with just enough sweetness to invite you back for another swallow. Some roasty, toasty, pumpernickle, dark chocolate, malty aromas and flavors. A tad thin, but not too bad. I liked this one a lot. Had it in bottle at Bodega last night downtown La Crosse. Retorp (2155), Tampa, Florida, USA May 20, 2007 Huge concentration of coffee, chocolate and roasty malts. Sort of a german porter in aroma, but with that fresh scrubbed German aroma you get in a lot of bocks and dunkels, offset by the dry fruti notes of cooked prune and raisin. Dark brown with a fluffy tan head that is mostly lasting. Cocoa, coffee, chcolate...all muted followed by toasty grains and a clean water/smoke (think hooka) finish. Very damn good. It just hits me right. I could drink a lot of this. dwyerpg (2094), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 17, 2006 The aroma is hard to place, a little smoky. Looks nice. Opaque. Tasty. Thickish like a stout, but with chocolate and more like a dunkel than anything else I suppose (did good!) Quite nice and not that heavy. Ernest (4254), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2004 Updated: Jan 3, 2005Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted nuts, caramel), moderately hoppy (flowers, orange), with a note of honey, light note of smoke. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation. A clean and refined dunkel lager that is blossoming with unmistakable honeysuckle Hallertauer and freshly baked bread and walnuts...and ohhh soooo German, from the first whiff you know exactly where this was made. Really beautiful malt character. Wonderful balance in the mouth and a soft, velvety mouthfeel. Big lasting head and lovely dark chestnut color. The other Mahr’s brews I’ve had haven’t impressed me too much, but this one is excellent.
