Weird flavor. Little bit of wheat notes and a little sour but very strange. Not sure why though. CLean finish that is slightly tart. Maybe I have already had too many! Started a conversation with the bartender about visiting Bamberg. He highly recommended and we eventually wound up there, much to our pleasure. A dark wheat bock with a lot of raisiny sweetness. Superbly satisfying. Hangover (768), Atlanta, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 17, 2006 Dark brown, slightly transluscent pour with a thin but lasting tan head. Sweet and yeasty aroma with some wheat and chocolate. Spicy, fruity taste. Surprisingly fruity. Some date and lemony notes. Bitter, fruity aftertaste. No hint of the high abv. I like the contrast between the aroma and the taste... drastically different. I enjoyed this one. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2006 500ml bottle sampled at Old Heidelberg in Bethel, CT. Pours a clear ruby with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma of cloves, vinous dark fruits and a touch of lemony citrus. Taste is somewhat dry dark fruits with some spiciness and a lightly acidic citrus flavor. Light body. Doesn’t have the depth of Aventinus, but an easy-drinking weizen bock that complements food decently. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 27, 2006 500 ml bottle from Table & Vine, Northampton MA (February 2006). Served at cellar temperature in an Allagash stem glass. A massive, lasting fluffy/bubbly head tops the clear dark maple body, leaving little lace as it very slowly dissipates....raisiny, plummy aroma with a hint of banana is pleasant enough but rather indistinct and the yeasty quality seems at first reminiscent of detergent....a bit of caramel approaches shyly as it warms, but I am still unimpressed.....body is lactic and a touch sour, with touches of cherry and licorice and milk chocolate, the wheaty sourdough character is most dominant though and combined with the fairly light body makes this seem more like a slightly alcoholic dunkelweizen than anything else....as it warms, the sourness becomes more vinous, which helps a bit....in the end, though, not very successful at all. It finishes on a smokey, vinegary note that leaves me wondering what I just drank.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 11, 2006 This beer introduces itself with an aroma of wheat, malt, caramel, and sour fruit. It is a mahogany colored solution with a decent off-white head and good lacing. The taste of this beer is a sour/sweet wheat taste. It fades and lingers a bit sour.
