Commercial Description:
Weisse Bock is an increasingly popular style that is strong and very tasty – with all of the fruity, spicy flavors one expects from a wheat beer, and more – but never too heavy on the palate. This rich, dark, and enthralling Bock is refreshing and drinks so easily that one would never suspect that it weighs in at 7.2% a.b.v. If you appreciate Aventinus, try Der Weisse Bock.

BBD 021205. Robe rouge surmontée d’une mousse blanche fugace. Arômes de caramel, de diacétyl et de fruits rouges. Saveurs de citron et de malt caramel. Probablement trop vieille.

Pours a flat, hazy sepia with a spongy, ecru head. Oxidation apparent with vegetables and light vinegar over caramel malts with brandy notes. Sour and metallic with caramel & yeasts. I can see where they were going with this, but my bottle doesn’t do it justice. Simply sour malts with a blast of alcohol.

Dark, glowing and hazy safire-chestnut in color with a creamy, tan ice sheaf for the head and A+ lacing from the get-go. Traditional aroma comprised of prunes, rum raisin, chocolate powdered bananas, cloves, lactic milk chocolate, and chocolate sugared bran. Mulled apple spicing meets pear fig neutons for the flavor’s first impression. Touch of searing acidity backdoors it. Lively peppered and lemon related accents from the yeast strain manifest fairly prominently. Chocolate is scaled back and golden raisins foot the fruit bill. Some brown sugar and nutmeg extend the spicing regime. Effervescence is bright, and syrupiness intercedes in place of the chewier qualities that are longed for in a weizenbock. Some misrepresentation skews the balance, hidden by carbonation, causing the mixture to incohesively settle across the palate. Finish concludes with caramel drizzled on raisins, figgy innards and a hint of souring chocolate, with a sulfurous tinge placating the palate’s memory for a good minute or two after all is said and done.

Bottle. Sweet banana, apple, clove and wheat malt aroma. Dark brown color with orange tint and ample head. Tart-sour grape and apple flavor with wheat malt coming through at the end. A very different but still very good beer. Flavor defies both stereotypical Hefe Weizen and Bock characteristics.

(Bottle) Pours a brown body with a large lasting off-white head. Aroma of green olives, cheese and mustiness. Flavor of malt, vinous, sourness, a bit of smokiness in the finish.

Slightly murky brown/amber color with a small tan head. Banana, cloves and fruit in the nose. Sweet malt taste with some notes of fruit. A nice beer - smooth and drinkable, but not great. Sort of Aventinus’ little brother.

(12.28.05) One pint, 0.9 fl oz brown bottle purchased from Dicarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. Clear brown bock having an medium sized off-white head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Fruity toffee aromas. Medium bodied that starts with light malt sweetness and fruity, toffee, spicy aromas. Finishes with light sweet malt aftertaste. Very malty and flavorful. An excellent drinkable bock beer.

Bottle. Dark brown cloudy body with a thick but diminishing beige foamy head. Good malty aroma with yeasty, spicy, and citrusy notes. Alcohol is well hidden. Taste is well balanced and carries sharp hoppy flavors. It ends with a decent bitter/sour finish. Enjoyable, although not as good as the Aventinus.
