Commercial Description:
Weisse Bock is an increasingly popular style that is strong and very tasty – with all of the fruity, spicy flavors one expects from a wheat beer, and more – but never too heavy on the palate. This rich, dark, and enthralling Bock is refreshing and drinks so easily that one would never suspect that it weighs in at 7.2% a.b.v. If you appreciate Aventinus, try Der Weisse Bock.

Starts out amber with a very large foamy head that sticks around. Tastes of banana and grapes. Not bad.

Bottle: 1 pt. .9 fl. oz. (bottled 02 04 04): outrageous growing tan foam; large bubbles at the base forming into a tight mountain two fingers about the rim of my glass. Burnt chestnut body with golden edges and thousands of tiny bubbles rising through the body. Gaping holes open in the foam, but it still doesn’t fall. Insanely fizzy palate to start. Doughy, banana filled aroma with light, chewy toffee notes, sweet plumy malts & lightly toasted dark grain. Wonderful, chewy malts wrap the tongue with plums raisins, honey and an almost Belgian yeast complexity. The carbonation settles a good bit after the bubbles start to die, which helps this one even out a bit more. Wow, this doesn’t happen all that often: this is so tasty that I really want to guzzle it. A nice surprise this one; a great beer with a beautiful malt profile & complexity.

A dense head of foam caps this chestnut hued German beauty. Big banana controls the aroma, tempered by the requisite dose of cloves and spice. With a round middle and a velveteen curtain of carbon dioxide, it’s easy drinking with a wonderful bock fullness. Maybe not as elegant as the almost holy Aventinus and the very best of the style but it’s nothing to scoff at—a big German spice cake of a beer.

A wheat bock, so I’m nearly tempted to compare it against Aventinus Wheat Doppelbock, but that’s a lofty standard to hold any beer against... A small head, disappears quickly. A color of deep violet. The aroma? Grapes are predominant, plus spices, vanilla. Taste is deep and rich, rather dry, but compromised by an unfortunate over-carbonation. Halfway into the 16.9 oz. bottle, all I can think of is "grape soda". Not too pleased by this one, sorry.

bottled. glad to find this in the states after not seeing it in bamberg. very frothy and murky and dark which was a good start. some caramel and stewed pears in the aroma, more stewed pear in the taste, warmed the gut nicely

Bottle date 01 06 04. Deep chestnut brown color that is clear and brilliant with a huge tan head that is thick and frothy as expected. Sweet caramel malt and fruity yeast aromas. The flavor is rich and malty with a well balanced tangy finish. Lots of dextrins make this one rich and filling. Very smooth and well done.

16.9 fluid ounces, brown, slender longneck bottle. Freshness date is "Bottled on 02 04 04". April 2nd 2004 was a good day for beer, apparently. Poured out a deep mahogany color, with cherry wood highlights. Hazy and cloudy from the suspended yeast in it. Volumous tan colored head hung on for the ride to the bottom of my wheat beer glass. Aromas are of fresh baked banana bread, along with plenty of malted wheat. Yeasty biscuits and slight hoppiness in the aromas as well. Tastes are exceptional, with the wheat malt and bananas fighting it out to the very end. Balanced, yet sassy. Rich mouthfeel, and high carbonation make for an interesting contrast. It’s not very hard to swirl up another thick head on this beer. This is my first beer from Mahr’s, and it was not a disappointment. Finished sweet and malty, with a touch of earthy hops in the mix. A most excellent beer overall. I’m so glad I took a chance and tried this one. I’ll be looking for some more, or I’ll be trying to clone it on my next batch of homebrew.

Deep brown cloudy w/thick head. Cherry yogurt, vanilla, banana all on the nose. Rich start, with chocolate, cream, and a brief finish, with little or no hops and sour notes. Floral notes do linger on the finish. Very light not bad
