Borresteijn (721), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 30, 2008 On tap. A rather sweet and malty, bready version of a hefeweizen. Bit thick and buttery.
KimJohansen (5208), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 21, 2008 Hazy deep amber with medium of white head. Sweet yeasty aroma with overripe fruits, sweet flavour with ripe fruits, yeast and caramel notes. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 18-Aug-08 (500-ml bottle: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) Pouring this beer into a tall, tapered wheat beer glass is quite the spectacle. Hazy and orange in color with, at any point in time, hundreds if not a thousand tiny carbonation bubbles crawling up the wall of the glass before joining the three-finger, off-white foam stand. Watching mesmerized by the display, the head shows magnificent head retention, holding a rocky inch of foam until I finally break my transfixed stare and begin to appreciate the other sensory gifts this beer offers. The nose is an enticing balance of bread, sourdough, citrus, barely ripe banana and dusty cobwebs. The tart and citrusy entry balances the bready flavor and carries through into the evolution where a tasty banana bread finish lingers on the palate. Medium-strong but smooth carbonation dances playfully on the tongue. It’s medium in body, a touch heavier than most in the style, but with the citrusy tartness and frolicking carbonation, the beer remains reasonably refreshing on the palate. Lacing consists of droopy rings, strings and spots. Overall, this is on the bigger side of the style and not exactly light on its feet, but nevertheless, the beer shows nice balance and is fun to drink. A single bottle, though, is probably the limit the palate can withstand. bananskib (2), Denmark does not count Aug 13, 2008 Light amber color. Hefe weisse cloudy.
The aroma reminds me of buttermilk.
There is a bit of caramel taste - but I find the yeast character dominant; a bit fruity. Smooth mouthfeel, creamy - somewhat sweet, which I think is ok. The taste doesn’t last long, Its a beer. Maria (4973), Thisted, Denmark Jun 17, 2008 Hazy orange-bronze color with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma is somewhat weak, but it does have notes of clove and banana. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of clove, that at first are subdued, but they develop and in the finish, it’s a rather dominant note. There also are weak notes of caramel and banana. The overall impression is a bit too thin.
