zach8270 (2050), Henrietta, New York, USA Nov 7, 2009 (bottle - 500 ml fliptop) Deep brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is malty with some biscuit and fruit notes. Flavor is mildly fruity and sweet at the beginning with some smooth and caramel malts near the end. Finishes very clean. Very thin-bodied. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 15, 2009 ***review from Dec 2008***
Very deep brown brew with red tints, thin light brown head, excellent messy, ropy lacing. Great aroma when warm. Lots of malts, fresh pumpkin, cardboard, dry cat food (biscuiy), slight spice. The taste has lots of toasty malts, some pumpkin, not much else I guess. Borders on a thinly bodied brew, good middle, finishes with pumpkin and very dry. The soft pumpkin impression comes out a lot more when warmer. Interesting but I’ll forget about this shortly. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 8, 2009 brown color, sudsy tan head, some lace. aroma of sweet malt, dried fruit. flavor has sweet fruit notes, dry fruits, plums, hint of rosted malt and chocolate. medium body, sweet finish, a bit too sweet for me. sampled with cornfield, whiling away the time at his place. Trev (849), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jan 6, 2009 pours a dark brown with a thin lasting tan head.
Aroma is nutty dark roast, light smokiness, some chocolate tones.
Flavour is again roasted nutty malt, bitter chocolate and light smoke with a charred wood bitterness to the finish. Not as sweet in the body as I expected. CanIHave4Beers (831), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2008 This gets major appearance points. It is a colour I have never really seen in a beer, like a deep ruby reddish brown when held up to the light... that wont even quite describe it. The head is fluffy, and leaves a delicate lace. Aroma is mildly oaky with some brown sugar, some cherry, and some yeast. Taste is a remarkable balance between a very woody dry hoppiness and a nice sweet malt. I swear I even taste a little smokiness on it, I would not be surprised to find out there was a small amount of smoked malt on this beer. I have been waiting to try this, and it indeed has been worth the wait. I will no doubt buy it again. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle.
