Aroma of toasted malts, light chocolate, coffee, and a hint of toffee. Flavor is roasted malts, caramel, light chocolate, and some smoke with a dry finish. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 0.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 1/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Thin, headless, very dark brown, bits of nuts but more prominent aromas of wet asphalt and old licorice. No body at all and barely any bitterness and near totally dry. This is barely beer to me. Could have been water scooped from an old washing machine and pitched with ash. Not quite Chelada but pretty bad. McGarnigle (313), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 2, 2008 500 ml, undated but probably not as fresh as I’d like. I got a good pop when opening this one. Translucent very dark brown with beige head. Not a lot of aroma: smells lager-ish with some cocoa. Body is a bit too thin with assertive fine bubbles. Taste is balanced between malt and hops. It’s not really as roasty as I would have thought. Slightly bitter with a dry finish. Very drinkable, but for the imported price. kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Dark, dark browm color, almost black, but light still goes through. Quickly diminishing taqn/brown head. Flavor is malty and bread-like. Nice bitter sweetness along with a slight roasted flavor. This is very well done. Cornfield (4946), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Very nice pour, a mahogany dark enough to seem almost black, capped by a tall tan head that pasted heavy lacing to the sides of the glass. The aroma has chocolate, dark roasted malt, nuts, and the slightest hint of herbal/grassy hops. Rich malty flavor, grain and dark bread dough, milk chocolate, a soft spiciness... i.e., good stuff. It finishes both sweet and mildly dry. A very quaffable lager.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Updated: Jul 31, 20080.5 l.Opaque black with a sticky, lasting three-finger head. Grain, herb, molasses and corn on the nose. Grain and biscuit initial flavor turns to roasted corn and nuts, then finishes with a delicate balance of spicy-herb hop and cocoa flavors. Light-medium body is fairly smooth, slightly watery, and finishes just dry enough. Great, highly-sessionable alternative to the ubiquitous Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale fall seasonals. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Swing-top. Aroma of sweet grass and citrus, light chalky/dusty hoppiness. Very malty with just a touch of grain. Fresh and refreshing! Slight bocky (grapey malt) touches. Chocolate and nuts. Noisy, excitable head fills the whole glass when not careful, lacing-rich and rocky cocoa-colored head. Deep, dark mahogany body, but still translucent. Taste is dry with chocolate, nuts, and light cocoa, perhaps a dash of mocha. Nice, downplayed earthy hops, but here, the malt’s the thing. Light rounding bitterness. Light body, not watery, and very smooth. Classy, straightforward but satisfying rendition. beerlord (215), tonawanda, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 8, 2008 A touch of dark malt in the aroma from a ruby body so dark it’s almost black. Small tan head that quickly dissipates. a touch of roasted malt ans some sweetness come through followed by some hellertau flavor and bitterness. On the thin side, and definitely nothing special.
