frankenkitty (1834), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Sep 17, 2008 A Guinness pint glass provided an apropos vessel for this dubious dunkel... despite its lack of a cascade, Jubelfestbier provided a similar sepia body and a full, mocha head which fell slowly forming an intriguing reverse meniscus. An all-malt aroma procures low, roasty coffee notes amidst full dark fruit, earth and cookie. Semi-sweet chocolate flavor with pruney fruitiness carried in a smooth, full body. This is only slightly watery in the finish, although her flavor carries long. Slight mineral characteristics late. A delicious concoction, despite my assumption that this was going to be a Marzen due to its name. Plus, it cellared nicely for over a year. (And for those of you who may be questioning, the answer is: Yes. Possibly.) )))))

Trev (629), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jan 6, 2009 pours a dark brown with a thin lasting tan head.
Aroma is nutty dark roast, light smokiness, some chocolate tones.
Flavour is again roasted nutty malt, bitter chocolate and light smoke with a charred wood bitterness to the finish. Not as sweet in the body as I expected. CanIHave4Beers (288), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2008 This gets major appearance points. It is a colour I have never really seen in a beer, like a deep ruby reddish brown when held up to the light... that wont even quite describe it. The head is fluffy, and leaves a delicate lace. Aroma is mildly oaky with some brown sugar, some cherry, and some yeast. Taste is a remarkable balance between a very woody dry hoppiness and a nice sweet malt. I swear I even taste a little smokiness on it, I would not be surprised to find out there was a small amount of smoked malt on this beer. I have been waiting to try this, and it indeed has been worth the wait. I will no doubt buy it again. Rciesla (1571), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle.
