Commercial Description:
Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Hefetrub It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head; has a golden-bronze color; a wonderfully fresh, perfumy; hop aroma; a remarkably smooth, almost oily, malty, palate; very fresh flavours; and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetising beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition.

500 ml Bottle at Grinder’s in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is golden yellow, and not entirely clear. Final pour had some sediment to it. Aroma is pretty faint, though caught the hop and malt on the nose. Initial taste is pretty straight forward, with some bitter and sour, though muted and towards the finish. All in all, an OK beer.

500 ml bottle. Pale gold/yellow brew with lots of yeast and a thick pillowy white head. Light clean pale malt, grassy/herbal hop aroma. Warming really freshens the aroma, straw and light honey. The flavour is a bit sour though. Thin body, grassy hops. Meh. I was hoping for something a bit nicer. A bit bready tasting, but way too thin and watery for my tastes.

Pours a rich golden orange with a medium white head. Heavy grain, citrus, pineapple, and grass in the smell. Very easy drinking, somehwat sour and bitter. Subtle orange peel and grainy wheat. Pretty interesting taste. The bitterness towards the finish is nice as well. For an easy drinking brew this one has alot going on.

From the bottle. I was expecting a lot more smoke character, but this didn’t have that. More of just a light sweet caramel malt flavor with a earthy hop finish. Heavy body with a smooth sweetness throughout. Just ok, would have been nice if it had a bit of smoke in the finish.

Poured a .5L bottle, and the hoppy aroma definitely hit quickly with a strong, skunky scent, not unlike that of St Pauli’s Girl. Head was nothing spectacular, though a high level of carbonation was evident. Taste had some woody, hoppy flavor, but body was somewhat lacking. Very easy to drink, albeit nothing remarkable due to the somewhat watery finish.

Muddy pale orange-yellow with little foamy yellow-white head. Aroma is malty sweet with some hay tones. Despite a low carbonation, the beer ’moves’ around your mouth giving of toffee flavours ending with grassy hoppyness.
