I have become not that big of a fan of this style and most german beers but this was pretty good. Nice nose full of malts mostly with some nuts. THe taste was just about the same with just a bit of wheat. Overall quite good, easily drinkable and pleasant. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England

Barky, ashy, leathery aroma. Greasy mouthfeel - quite flat. Metally malt flavour; slightly spicy but generally plain. Rather dull Keller. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 2, 2005 Grainy, biscuity malts and herbal hops in the nose. Opaque flat tan with no head. Likely should be served in earthenware or ceramic steins. Herbal grassy hop flavours with moderate bitterness but not a lot of malt character. Crisp and dry with strong carbonation that is a mite harsh on the tongue. Bottle sampled with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere at the Sunset Grill in Boston. Nice flavor, punchy and fruity up front, grass and a mite earthy, vaguely caramel in the end. Nice hoppiness at the end, good bite. A mite overly subtle, but reasonably tasty. The gravity cask version at the brewery was slightly better with its earthy and grassy hop flavors mingling with caramel sweetness, but the dry, mineral water finish and aqueous feel were detracting from the pleasure to be had. There are much better examples around Franconia. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2005 Bottle at the Sunset grill. Nice brownish muddy colour. Malty aroma is biscuity, earthy and an okay match for the grassy hops. More of the same is uncovered in mouth, this is a bit limited in range, mostly cookieness, grassiness and dry earthiness. Well made, but simple and not very interesting. Pretty crisp bodied through its high carbonation, but I always expect more yeast character and complexity from unfiltered lagers. Nose is creamy, malty, and sweet in a nice combination. Flavor also has some creaminess, a little hops character and a very refreshing malt character. A very enjoyable session beer.
