| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 28, 2005 A nice looking brew, with a good, dark golden color and large white head. Nose is creamy, malty, and sweet in a nice combination. Flavor also has some creaminess, a little hops character and a very refreshing malt character. A very enjoyable session beer. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2005 500 ml (quite fresh) bottle at the Moan and Dove in Amherst MA. Deep, unfiltered opaque amber with little head but many secrets hidden in the haze...caramel/butterscotch prominent in the nose with light fresh herbs...sweet, acidic and herbal/piney on the tongue, juicy and dry by turns, dusty turning to clean with a lightly bitter, almond-inflected finish. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 1, 2005 Updated: Feb 11, 2006500ml bottle. Bottled on 26 03 03, so this is just shy of 2 years old! Pours a nice golden color, with a good head and strongly carbonated. White lace clings to glass. Slightly cloudy from yeast. Smells good. Toasty malt and just a touch of apple fruitiness along with some pleasant hops. Palate is medium in feel, finishing dry and bitter with a little lingering malt behind that. I really like this beer, and I’m not generally a lager fan. It has a full maltiness with solid hoppiness. Just a joy to drink, this has got everything I could ask for from a session lager, nothiing dull at all. I am really surprised that it has held up this well. I didn’t expect it to. I had another older one a couple months ago and it was noticeably sour. This one isn’t at all. Very solid. Rating of 4.1. Having had this many more times in fresher bottles, and just having from the keg at the Huber Haus, I am forced to bump up my rating for this. This is one of my favorite beers. Lush, full, tasty, fabulous. A bit hazy, hoppy, with a wonderful malt component...the yeast really makes this beer special. An absolute joy. I need to have a keg of this in my house! npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2004 Cloudy yellow, white head. Grassy, hoppy nose, some bready malts, honey. Tangy, grassy, hoppy flavor, fairly bitter, some pumpernickel. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2004 Bottle. Pours a huge rolling off white head over a bright orange beer. Some sediment and haziness detracts from what would have been a perfect pint. Aroma is pure Hallertau with lots of yeasty notes. Taste is full-on malt with more yeasty flavors. Fruity, bready, yeasty. What a kellerbier should be. Strange it is not a smoked bier, being from Bamberg. Would love to have this on tap, I’ll wager this has been in the bottle awhile. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 15, 2004 500ml bottle. Fruity, floral hop aroma, leafy and juicy, with light touches of pineapple, malt sweetness, earthiness and doughy yeast. Medium-dark golden color, quite hazy with swirls of sediment and a fine, creamy, lasting head. Flavor is primarily hoppy, lightly citric, spicy and peppery, with a moderate amount of bitterness throughout, although the malt’s presence is made known through the medium body and palate. Finish is dry and flowery. Quite tasty and refreshing.
