Commercial Description:
Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Hefetrub It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head; has a golden-bronze color; a wonderfully fresh, perfumy; hop aroma; a remarkably smooth, almost oily, malty, palate; very fresh flavours; and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetising beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition.

Draught. Golden colour, small beige head. Aroma is diacetyl, cellar, hops and some mild notes of caramel malts. Flavour is much the same along with some mild fruityness and hoppyness.

(6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Hazy deep golden with a white head. Aroma has some lightly herbal hoppiness and faint citrus notes. A rather dry flavor with light malty sweet notes and hops. Medium-bodied.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of straw, biscuits, some pepper. Tastes refreshing with sweet caramelly malt dominating some nice bitter hints.

On tap at Mahrs Brewpub, Bamberg. Clouded orange amber with white head. Heavy wheatabix type malt beer, quite dry and fairly bitter. Some caramel, yeast. Not too bad.

50 cL bottle, trade with Maria. Pours almost clear and golden orange with a dense, creamy and slight off-white head. Aroma is mild spiced and malty. Light breadish malt flavour with a lurking bitterness and mild spice note. Holds a nice caramel flavour in addition. Ends mild caramel malt spiced and light bitter. Smooth balance.

Clear amber colored with a small head and very little lacing. Sweet, yeasty aroma with some slight bread and floral notes. Sweet clean malt taste with very slightly bitter undertones. Short, clean bitter finish.

Cloudy, dirty yellow, dense white head. Skunky euro-hop aroma and lots of biscuity and bready malt. Very generously malty palate, smooth and creamy, herbal/floral stemmy hop finish. Really interesting and very appealing to me. I wish I had bought more.

(cleaning out my beer bottle collection as pictured in my profile and utilizing ratebeer.com) As I recall, this was a very unique brew.
