(Rating #1795)

Any first impressions?
-A long-lasting head covered the warming deep red.
-Toffee nuttiness and cherry undertones are dissolved into a dusty yeast aroma.
-Sweet, fruity maltiness and dryish yeastiness disagree on the destination.
-The expansive carbonation comfortably breaks on the tongue.

What if you dig deeper?
-Citrusy hoppiness is occasionally found in the nose and in the flavor profile.
-The stale yeast’s agenda seems to prevent the rest of the beer from expressing itself.
-An under average brown ale with yeast issues is what I got. Forgettable, certainly.

Bottle; no date.

Explodes out of bottle and pours a light tan, five+ finger head that goes quickly and leaves some lace. Slightly cloudy amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is somewhat malty. Starts malty but the hops come in giving a dry finish. $1.83 for a 12oz bottle from Maine Coast Brewery Bar Harbor, Me.

Average for a brown ale. Nuttiness, yogurt and cookie dought can be detected on the nose. Taste is a bit flat with some peppery undertones, but otherwise very sub par compared to some of the beers I was spoiled on during my stay in Bar Harbor.

Aroma is acceptable, roasted malts typical of any brown really. The appearance was a brownish red color. Taste was where the beer really failed as far as i’m concerned. A little watery, and I too could taste that metallic almost dirty taste which is present in their oatmeal stout also. Not a very good pick at all.

This was the third glass of beer I had at Jack Russels in Bar Harbor, Me. What crap, as this one was light yellow with no head and a sick smell. First taste tasted metallic and had a hard time wanting to finish this one.

Deep brown color with a fine head. Full nutty aroma. Good malty nd nutty taste with just a touch of hoppy bitterness on the finish. Somewhat lighter in overall presence than expected.

Bottle <P> Dark mahogany with good clarity. Foamy, tan head holds at a solid cap. The aroma is a rustic blend of cocoa and nutty malts, which are somewhat overwhelmed by the fruity Ringwood yeast. The flavor is an extension of that, with the distinctive yeast overpowering the round maltiness. Towards the end, suggestions of powdered cocoa, nuts, and leafy hop finally break through. A bit of roasted malt surfaces deep into the aftertaste. On the lighter side of medium in body, with a fairly dry finish. A solid brew. My thanks to it’s brewer Jon for the bottle.
