(Rating #1798)

From a growler picked up at Burby and Bates in Orono. Pours a flat ebony with a small lacy brown head. Nice. Smells quite malty and smoky. Burnt malt. Taste is very nutty. Burnt malt flavors and smoky undertones. Very big beer. Every flavor smacks you in the head. Conversely, it has a very smooth mouthfeel and finish. Does not have a sharply bitter finish like alot of big stouts, it is more muted. It’s creamy like a milk stout. (Is there such a thing as Imperial Milk Stout? Hmmm....) Thick and malty but also a nice creamy texture. The creaminess makes this quite the drinkable brew considering the style. Very nice.

YUM! Oh how I love imperial stouts (few though I’ve had). Where to begin...intense roasty, chocolately nose, full bodied, chewy mouthfeel, sweet but not cloying flavor with an impressive finish that just lingers forever. Good one to finish with, because it stays with you.
