The label didn’t hook me but the beer sure did. Poured a caramel-fudge coloured hazy gold. Quite light in carbonation, unusual for a weiss, with a sloppy, messed up head of cream donning it, holding there and lacing well as it sunk into the stein. Aroma of a bakery at dawn, wholemeal and fresh sliced white bread, a little raw malt and a closer link showing of banana esters and spicy phenols. Big toasted malts in the mouth, husky, gritty, rough, fresh. This holds some very complex, well defined malt flavours. It is also peaty, nutty and earthy as it moves back towards the tonsils and long into the swallow. Reminds me of Düsseldorf’s ’morning beers’. There is a strong presence of smoke that builds with each sip. Lingering flavours of burnt, damp wood, overripe bananas and cloves aid this. Down into the swallow it is peaty and woody, volatile and lingering - a lovely depth of flavour. Body is firm, though quaffable. Carbonation holds all in check. This is lovely stuff. It is liquid bread, made to taste fantastic. Lovely!!! (50cL, 13/03/07, The Beer Store Morley) strings (361), Sydney, Australia

Filmy white layer. Fresh aroma of sweet fruit. Varied flavours of coriander, bitter oranges and cloves. Medium palate. Rather dry ending. Not as sweet as many other weizen. LeoN (26), Athens, Greece

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Dull apricot pour with a cap of off-white. Sort of an odd smell for a hefeweizen. Dusky dried fruit. A surprising lack of phenolics. I wrote "a sort of sweet sweaty smell", but saw StewardofGondors description of "squeezable toy ponies" and that’s exactly it! Gentle honey flavor with more dried fruit. Soft carbonation. Touch of cloves. This was a little past date, but I kind of like its faded quality. Actually makes me think of barleywine a little bit. Aged hefeweizen. Maybe it will catch on.
