It’s very citrusy (lemons and oranges), but there’s a moderate amount of "rot" to the fruit, which works well here. There’s some cloves, sourdough bread, and a slight hint of white chocolate. Deep earthy taste at first, but there’s more to it. It’s like a strong pilsner malt taste with more sourdough bread notes. A slight bit of pepper as well. Finishes with the same flavors, but slightly drier. The fruit comes back a little bit, but it’s not dry enough, and/or there’s not enough hops to this. It’s cloying but without the syrupy body that should necessitate cloying, so it feels off. Highly carbonated body, but it feels creamy and medium to light, while the flavor lays on the throat heavily. No traces of any heat. Good stuff, but great aroma. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2005 A big, noise orangey brew with great head and excellent aromatic qualities. Incredibly light-bodied considering its powerful 10% abv punch. Certainly a smooth, tasty beer, but I’m not too crazy about the final finish -- do I sense a bit of pilsner in there? Fraid so, but you can’t take the craftsmanship out of this one no matter what. 12 is still my favorite Malheur, though. SSSteve (2104), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
