hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Oct 31, 2009 Caged and corked bottle. Medium sized very fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, cloudy brown body, one ring of lacing and carbonation observed. The aroma is hoppy, floral, malty, spicy, dark fruits, and hints of caramel and chocolate. The flavor is malty, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, nutty, spicy, and the ABV is noticeable. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a medium bodied beer. A warming sensation kicks which would make this a good beer to drink during the winter, worthy of a try, and definitely a beer I would drink again. Hank1980 (732), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle shared at Trappeze. Poured dark brown with a large off-white head. Aroma is lightly spiced, with sweet malt, candied sugar, fruit, and mild yeast. Taste is a mix of sweet and spice, with a good bit of sweet malt, candi sugar, and sweet spices. Again, some fruit in the taste, with some hop bitterness in the finish. Mouth is full and well carbonated. Overall, a nice quad. Lyncham (46), Ohio, USA Oct 20, 2009 This beer had excellent aromas from start to finish of dart roasted malts, spices, and esthers. The beer had a complete malty flavor with candi addatives, spice, licorice, a nice bittering hop finish. The carbonation was small bubbles and refreshing and the head was thick at the pour. mcdav2154 (289), Germany Oct 13, 2009 Very dark brown body with great lacing. Smell and taste are of raisins, plums, huge on hops, and burnt malts. Mild carbonated mouthfeel and creamy. Great beer! corby112 (670), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2009 Pours a very dark chestnut brown color with some amber edges when held to a light source and a huge frothy tan head that slowly settles into a lasting cap that leaves chunks of soapy lacing.
Spicy peppery aroma with a bit of cinnamon, chocolate malt, brown sugar, candi sugar, licorice and earthy hops.
Dark chocolate malt flavor with some nice spicy notes, especially pepper, cinnamon and brown sugar. There are also some nice dark fruit notes; plum, raisin, fig, etc. as well as some brown sugar, candi sugar, subtle hops and some sweet alcohol warmth in the finish.
chmurarz (401), Raciborz now Legnica, Poland Sep 30, 2009 cloudy brown body, no head, aroma rich malts and alc, fruity/candy sweeetness, taste, despite emormous alc content, not so visible in the beer. very sweet, caramel, sugar, mango, medicine, palate feel is very good and the alc is very warming, a little bit too strong and too sweet, sharp carbonation stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Sep 27, 2009 Beautiful dark strong. Aromas and flavors of dark dried fruits abound. Alcohol is very well hidden. Strong dark toffee note of caramelized sugar. Went well with grilled steaks. Thanks Chuck! Allen (1282), Switzerland Sep 23, 2009 Bottled 33cl. Appearance: Dark ruby with a huge bubbly beige head. Some lacework. Aroma: Apricot, peach, elderflower and a lot of papaya accompanied by a lot of lemon, milk chocolate, dates and some caramel showing up. Deeply inviting. Not alcoholic at all actually. Flavor and palate: Great balance. Reminiscent of fruit salad with papaya being quite present. Very nice. Smooth. Warming finish with hints of caramel and fruit. Overall impression: Very good. An impressive belgian strong ale. Extremely fruity. The alcohol is very well hidden.
