Pours a murky ruby red with a thick frothy tan head. The nose was very warm, rummy/raisiny, dark fruits, alcohol, light Belgian must. The flavor was crisp and warm, raisiny, sharp esters, fruity, some sherry. Crisp lively carbonation with a hot alcoholic mouthfeel.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Deep dark brown. Mostly opaque. Rich dark fruit aroma wit a little bit of sweet. A little tobacco as well. Sweet spiced flavors. Interesting boozy flavors. Like a Jamaican rum & root beer. Well hidden alcohol.

Pouring a dark, muddy brown color, the body is crowned by a small but well retained head of tan colored foam. Wet spots and flares of lacing mark the glass in a random, scattered pattern. The aroma shows dark, dried fruits, primarily raisons, plums, and figs. Hints of cinnamon and creamy, lightly peppery Belgian yeast complete the nose. Flavors are sweet up front, but well integrated with earthy, spicy hops. Raisons and figs are the dominant components, but a creamy element plays a major role. Medium-full bodied and silky smooth, it drinks quite well for a 12% beer. Overall, very solid. Compared against St. Bernardus Abt 12, it did fairly decent.

Bottled. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma was belgian yeast, some bread and alcohol. Flavor was too sweet for me. Dark fruits with noticable alcohol that was overly sweet. Medium carbonation.

Was given an 11.2 oz. bottle- and it’s a Friday! The pour: rich, head collapses quickly due to it’s high alochol content. The color: deep, dark, almost stoutish in color. The bouquet: very ripe plums, baker’s dark chocolate, with nice roasted malt subtleties. The palate: toasty, malty, a rich creaminess and pepperiness at the same time. (Not easy to achieve in a beer!) The finish: wonderful lingering malt finish. This is a wonderful beer. I have had their tripel, and it was fantastic as well!
