Yeasty plum and warm spicy golden raisin aromas ride notes of caramel berries and hints of coffee. Intense semi-sweet port flavors upfront round to more buttery spiced caramel and figgy bread-like tones. Full bodied with soft carbonation. A very well done quad which I think is a tad underrated. Perfect for sipping after dinner... Sammy (4013), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Malt and some spicey yeast, with the emphasis on the spice. Above avrage mouthfeel, tasty treat that is experterly spiced malt. Very good Belgium.Dangerously drinkable. Taste is heavily in the European strong beer area, with some alcohol fusels. I’m not enjoying this as much as other raters, I see. BelgiskOlklub (406), Viby J, Denmark

The body is cloudy and dark brown. The malt aroma is heavy with toasted and coffee notes. Also nice aroma of plum, licorice, wine and port. Heavy in alcohol. It has a full body, a creamy texture and a flat carbonation. The flavour is heavy sweet and light bitter. A good powerfull and fruity beer. Wim (1294), Turnhout, Belgium

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Bottle (with a really great label), from Noel Cuveliers, Abele. Pours rich brown with a fine dark tan head. Very bright aroma, a fresh cola quality, caramel, violets, mint. Soft minty chocolate flavor, spicy-sweet alcohol warmth, transitions to menthol cooling finish. Very different, even among the eccentric world of Belgian Strong Ales. Initially I was totally on board with this. But half way through my little 25 cl bottle, it starts to get a little much. Too much sticky-sweet, too much mint. Too much like old-man port. It did start off really well though... wyzzywyz22 (792), Wirral, Merseyside, England

Aroma of molasses and brandy. Flavour is spicy and sweetish ,and has hints of raisin, prune and caramel. Bit syrupy; alcohol masked very well. Doesn’t this mean ’bad hour’ ?! bumpskier (24), Sonoma, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 22, 2008 Pours a very dense opaque. Carbonation suitable for the style. The aroma is somewhat subdued but carries a mild fruity aroma from the malts & true to the commercial description retains some of the floral notes as well. Not yeast fruity. Drinks very digestible and dry. Not cloyingly sweet as some U.S. version finish. However, I would have like to have the flavor last a little longer on my palate. Not that a clean finish is inappropriate, but I was left wanting. Overall this is a beer I will drink more of and enjoy during the colder days of any season. An excellent beer to have in the cellar.
