Perfectly complex and a wonderful beer for special occasions. Substitue for champagne. Great floral hop aroma and fantastic malt character. Sour, resinous and spicy. Cocoa, coriander and cinnamon. Berries, soap, liquorice and booze. Creamily headed and steadily fizzing. Hoppiest dark beer at this strength I’ve tasted. Sweet-sour and rootily savoury. Big fan of any beer at 12% I can sup geekishly without feeling like a tramp. Black chocolate brown with a creamy tan head. Complex and dangerous. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Bottled. Very dark brown with a thick but collapsing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of yeast, chocolate, and spices. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of chocolate, alcohol, malt, spices, and yeast, the spices include cinnamon and coriander. The alcohol tickles the tongue, the tickling lasts for a long time after swallowing. Ughsmash (4095), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 11, 2007 Bottled. Poured a clear, very deep brown with a nice initial cap of beige head. Aroma was of deeply-toasted wood and chocolate on the first impression with some herbal and vinous notes lagging behind. Flavor had a toasted marshmallow and caramel fore that gave rise to a rather empty middle... light smoky caramel and warm booze on the back-end. Syrupy front and back with an empty middle.. not very good transitions there.. warm through the finish. I was expecting more. MesandSim (5958), London, Greater London, England

Bottle at Weekend of S.F. This was one of our feebies at the end of the evening. Thanks Tim. Actually it was more like morning. As a result (especially as Patrick had been plying us with drinks AAAAALLLLL day, erm... cheers mate!) I was worse for wear. My notes say nothing more than: "Sugar, spice, excellent." And that it was. Love the warped label too. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Rather sweet but the alcohol tast is there only in the aftertaste. A very good beer bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
