trevor211 (204), Seattle, Washington, USA May 29, 2008 Pours a deep cola brown with surprisingly little head for the amount of carbonation, which leads me to believe this is fairly thin. This is St. Bernardus’ Abt. 12 before it was refined. Age it and it might get there. Ripe fruits (figs, dates), yeast and malts on the nose. Flavor is sweet, adding hops, spices and a bit of mint. Dry finish - not as sticky as some people are saying. Very good, but as I said - would certainly benefit from mellowing with age.
AskForJenny (474), Ontario, New York, USA Jan 7, 2009 0.75l - Random buy. Licorice and smoke followed by spice. For some reason didn’t expect it to be quadrupel dark. Good times. TheBeerOrg (1416), Kentucky, USA Dec 30, 2008 Pours dark brown with a mostly reeding wispy tan head. Tastes of brown sugar, rum, banana, and bubble gum. Mouthfeel is full bodied and lightly alcoholic with lush carbonation. jujubeast6000 (589), Houston, Texas, USA Dec 15, 2008 Reviewed 12/15/2008 (bottle dated 25.10.10):
Pours a very dark reddish brown color body. Small off-white head head, quickly diminishing. Funky smell, sour. Dark fruits.. Creamy mouthfeel, some fizziness. Dark fruit taste Some dark chocolate/coffee taste. Some alcohol warmness. bhensonb (3221), Woodland, California, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle, c&c. BBE 15.10.09 Dark ruby color with a frothy tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, darkish malt and maybe some hop florality. Medium plus body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is prune, date, candi and dark malt. No impact of heat. Seems a bit dusty. Finishes dry and slightly astringent. Very nice sipper. Ethereal (1167), London, Greater London, England Dec 7, 2008 Great ruby look. Fruity aroma, usual Belgian flavours but not as complex or full-on as the classic 12s.
