Suttree (2433), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 3, 2008 Deep brown, almost black. Thin dense head. Smells like pineapple, ginger. Very bready flavor, like pumpernickel, maybe, and hints of fruit and tobacco and leather and maybe fig, or maybe some chocolate. Flavor is not nearly as fruity as the aroma. Maybe some port or sherry as it warms. Rated on port 82. Smell is dominated by spice, raisins, caramel, molasses. Tastes sweet with a nutty finish. puzzl (1981), New York, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger. Bland, fizzy pour, prune juice and syrup aroma. Sweet, very sugary, light fruit, overly fizzy. Do not want. JoeMcPhee (4061), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Deep amber-brown beer, tending to black with some ruby highlights. Aroma is quite rich and malty with a heavy plummy/pruny sweetness. Some lightly fruity vineousness. Light strawberry and molasses. Flavour is quite nice, light cocoa, herbal chocolate and a soft grassy hoppiness. Lightly vineous but well-attenuated. As it warms it gets a bit chewier. Lightly earthy with a bit of leathery character. Lingering peppery spiciness. It’s pretty decent really.
