Commercial Description:
Redolent of coffee and dark chocolate, Double Nut Brown is our amped-up version of a traditional Nut Brown. This dark ale combines a mild sweetness with a finishing roasty dryness, and is brewed with roasted, brown and dark Munich malts.

Bottle. Nice dark brown appearance with smallish head, aroma of sweet caramel, roasty with a tinge of almond. Not getting a double heaping of nut flavor, but what otherwise very smooth roasty, cocoa coffee and sweet caramel. A decent brown ale, easy to drink.

Draft at Brews in the Village; Nose of coffee, caramel, and brown sugar; dark brown with a small beige head; flavor of coffee, molasses, with a small bitter hop finish! 9/9/07 12 oz bottle from Country Club Liquors; Nose of chocolate, coffee, and caramel; very dark brown with a small beige head; flavor is heavy with coffee and some leaaser amounts of chocolate; simliiar but different from the draft version; no hops! 7/4/7/4/14 3.6

On tap in Bishop. This is a moderately rich, dark, brown ale with a strong toasted coffee/chocolate flavour and bite. Not as smooth or balanced as some brown ales (like Newcastle or Downtown Brow). It has stronger body and flavour than Newcastle but is thinner and less well-rounded than Downtown Brown. It’s fairly good but nothing special. This is primarily because it has too much of a burnt coffee/choclate element which tends to dominate the beer, leaving it not that well balanced and somewhat one-dimensional.

Bottle(6%) from Hi-Time Wine. Pours a very dark ruby color. Strong roasted coffee aromas. Some sweet chocolate as well. Hoppiness is hidden in there too. Very roasty flavor. Strong coffee character. Some milk sugar sweetness. Some hops in the finish to round it out. Tastes alot more like a stout than a brown.

Pours a dark clear amber brown with mohagany undertones and a creamy beige head. Aroma of brown nuts and creamy coffee. Taste is pleasantly nutty with hints of cream, coffee, malts and a bit of baking chocolate. Excellent.

Super strong coffee malt aroma. Dark brown with mahagony undertones. A smallt tan head that went away pretty quickly. Slightly nutty aroma as well. A very nice coffee flavor. Not alot of sweetness. Initial taste is mostly bitter piney hops. Very coaty mouthfeel as it is quite resiny for the style. I liked this alot, as I found it pretty unique for the style!

Just an average nut brown...a little too overwhelmed by the coffee flavors, and too dry for preference in the style...still one of Mammoth’s better beers.
