| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Mammoth Double Nut Brown is an incredibly dark brown ale that’s almost opaque. The coffee ice cream colored head is dense and slowly thins to a film with oily bubbles and dense lacing. A deep, dark roast coffee aroma sits on a nutty, slightly sweet malty scent. There’s possibly a touch of mint in the nose. It’s full bodied and very smooth with a long, ashy finish. It tastes a touch sweet, but there’s enough bitterness to balance it out. It tastes nutty-- walnutty, even. The deep, soft sweetness lasts through the finish. The bitterness is secondary here, but it’s leafy and appropriately strong. It’s very drinkable on account of all that big, bold, brown flavor. bsierra (213), Vista, California, USA

A nice brown hue followed by a warm chocolate malt, toasted nutty waves and mild hop hints with a super smooth finish, I can’t wait to have another! NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Aroma is heavy peanut skin, vegetable oil and pretty dang big on chocolate aromas. You also get a healthy dose of coffee. Pretty solid smelling Brown Ale if atypical...though what is typical for a Double Brown Ale?
<P>
Body pours murky river water brown and settles a deep ruddy brown that is very close to black. The head is dark tan, a thumb thick and fades slowly.

Fairly heavy, for a brown ale, on the palate, but the fore is somewhat light on flavor...mild toasty malts, definite nuttiness...but not a high concentration. It gets more compressed throught the middle with chocolate, coffee, peanut skin and mild burnt/black chocalate notes. I really like this. It finishes with a strong dark chocolate/mint flourish. I wish this is what most Brown Ales tasted like. mcbackus (755), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2005 Clear umber color with a moderate dense tan head. Wide ring of lace. Mellow aroma. Chocolate covered peanuts, lightly roasted coffee, earth, and dark brown sugar mingle together in the nose. A mild fruity component enters as it warms. Very smooth feel. 7%! You have to be kidding! I was thinking this would be a great brew to imbibe all night, but perhaps a bit strong for that, but it would be a fine brew to sip while reading a novel. Flavors are quite light but well balance and soothing. Light chocolate and modest yeast. Light roasted malt linger. This is a really nice brown ale. Thanks John. Nice dark brown color with reddish hints and an offwhite head, I thought that this beer was pretty tasty.
The aroma was of coffee and some chocolate notes, the flavor was dry with nutty roastiness. Very tasty.
