22oz bottle courtesy of solomon420. Nice dark orange appearance. It smells almost like a DIPA but then the herbs come in, and nto the good kind. Once I tasted it I felt like someone had lit up a bunch of sage and waved it in my face. This was too strange and not something I look for in a DIPA. It is different though... Bottle. Poured a nice looking coppery, orange with a firm, medium khaki head. Aroma grapefruit, flowers, mesquite/wood, sugar and a nice juniper balance. Very interesting flavor. Did not realize that it had juniper and sage until reading the description on ratebeer; but after tasting it, the juniper presence is clear. Pretty easy drinking. Flavor did not wow me, as I am not a big fan of juniper. However,

On tap at the Clocktower Cellar Pub in Mammoth with jarspag and Maheu in January 09. Clear bronze color with medium carbonation and small head. Interesting aroma of rye and floral juniper with some toasted malt and light hops underneath. Low hop profile in the flavor, considering the style; however it is probably the spices overpowering the bitterness. Strange gin-like finish with more toasted grains. Kind of strange.

This reddish orange beer poured with a nice beige head and a caramel aroma. There is a sweet malt flavor with lots of caramel and a citrus and pine finish. The juniper flavor reminds me of genever.

Bottle from the Coop in Davis, CA. Copper amber color with a three-finger beige tan head. Rather evergreen aroma, but not over the top. Medium body with creamy carbonation. There is so much hop. It is almost juniper. It is almost sticky with resin and malt. Sage? Might be. Mostly really evergreen. If you love gin, this is for you. The juniper just rolls around the mouth. This might be something to preserve the body for the ages!

GABF 2008. Bronzy amber, low cream coloured head. Odd chemical aroma, like freshly torn plastic packaging, intermingles with the usual resinous and fruity cascade trademark. The same weird chemical flavour drowns out any sweet malt or aromatic hop character. The finish is long and bitter, but that can’t make up for the dominant flavour. This one did not hit the mark for me.

DTM scored this on a trip to So-Cali. I had a beer once called Spruce Ale. That one was horrible, however this beer was what I was expecting from that label. It was super piney, like licking an evergreen tree and it tasting how the forest smells. Nice departure from the norm and clear example of what a piney IPA brings to the palate.

22oz bottle as bonused by doublea....pours a red caramel brown pour with a semi thin off-white head.... strange aroma that had a sweet plasticy aroma, somewhat chemical with some other spices that really threw things off for me....that off aroma made its way to the flavor which didn’t quite work for me. sweet malts with some bitterness but ultimately difficult for me to digest. quite different with the spices involves but not to my liking. points for a totally different west coast DIIPA.
