Commercial Description:
The Northern English Brown Ale style dates back to 1750 when malt kiniling technology did not allow for the production of pale beer. Although related to both porter and mild ale and reminiscent of toffee and nuts, the nutty flavors come from a delicate blend of chocolate and caramel malts. Medium brown in color, this ale provides a malty nose with a hint of roasted nuts and finishes quite dry with just enough earthy English hop bitterness to create a balance prized to any loving Brit.

On tap at the Manayunk Brew Pub. Poured a medium brown color with an off white head. Lots of carbonation bubbles on the side of the glass (but the palate was not over carbonated). Aromas and tastes of nuts, toffee and light caramel. Malty. Medium sweet.

Reasonably decent brown ale. Heavy coffee and malt aroma. The taste was very close to being a stout but not exactly there, plus there was a nice hint of bourbon in there.
