Commercial Description:
DARK UNFILTERED WHEATBIER
The Dunkelweizen was one of the most popular beers in Germany in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and lost popularity with the emerging younger drinkers to the ever popular Hefeweizen until many U.S. micro brewers brought it back. Virtually a combination of a Munich Dunkel and Hefeweizen, this beer carries the best traits of both. Our interpretation is lagered of two months leaving very little yeast in suspension, is light brown in color and drinks light and smooth with a rich malt background.5% ABV, 20 IBUs

Draft pint, at brewery. Pours a hazy amber body with a tight bubbled creamy off-white head that had decent retention. Yikes! the nose is just all diacetyl, somebody filled this keg with liquid slightly burnt buttered popcorn. There’s a touch of yeastiness in the flavor, but it’s really just all buttered popcorn. Stale buttered popcorn. Stale buttered popcorn with lots of kernal husks. The mouthfeel is thinnish with a good bit of fizzy carbonation. No depth here at all. This was just horrid. I drank about 4 ounces just to try and find something decent to say about this and it just wasn’t happening. Yuck.

Draft. Pours hazy orange with an off white head. Caramel, spice, fruity, and roasted aroma. Medium body. Flavor has spices, caramel, banana and butter, followed by a nicely bitter roasted finish. My favorite of the night.
