Body is a dark brown and ruby blend with a small brown head. Nose is grainy with cocoa, light anise, light maple and an odd aroma of what I believe to be dogfood. It’s wasn’t as bad as it sounds! Taste is cocoa, sweet malts, some brown sugar and sucrose. Body is syrupy and creamy. Sticky feel. Finish is a cream and chocolate mix. Definitely different! hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Oct 9, 2004 Sorry Silk, this may be a rare example of a all but vanished (and it’s easy to see why) old style, but I just don’t like it. The best element is the colour - deep, dark, garnet. After that, it’s all downhill. Packed with oxidised, cardboard aromas, typical of pasteurised bottled beer. The flavour is sweet malt (almost like malt extract), but woody at the same time, with a medicinal tang in the background. Drinkable (just), but I won’t be trying this again. Bottled.
