Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
Contract brewed by Burtonwood for Ushers (Refresh UK).
By the turn of the 20th century Mild was very popular and bottled ales were growing fast. In 1902, Manns Whitechapel brewery produced the first bottled mild and brown ale was born.
Since the Fifties mass market brands of bitter and lager have grown strongly, at the expense of brown. With brown ale volumes in decline, most brewers withdrew their brands, Manns being a notable exception.

A deep red beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with notes of chocolate, while the flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and chocolate. The body is thin.

Dark brown, malty and balanced. Very good for being only 2.8%!

Re-rate. I originally had this in London, the re-rate is from the bottle in Hong Kong. Got it at CitySuper in Tsim Sha Tsui. Medium chestnut brown colour. The aroma has some brown sugar notes, some darker sugars, some grains. The palate is predictably watery, but has some malt complexity, in the form of light nuts and dark sugar nuance. Faint roast. It’s not a bad beer, especially for its size. It has a good mild character.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Very dark ruby. No head. Not a lot of nose, slightly acidic in mouth with some hop on end. OK beer just not a lot of flavour

Black Isle, Scotland august 05. I thougth this would be a typical, sweet, malty and boring beer - but I was fooled. The color is dark brown, the head nice and the aroma is malty with notes of caramel. The flavour has notes of roasted malt, caramel, a bit of chocolate and a light sweetness. The finish has a very weak bitterness. It has a lot of taste in spite of the low ABW (2.8), and if you find this beer, you definitely should try it!

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Asda. Must say I enjoyed this (enjoyed???) more than I thought I would considering the abv. Quite sweet, little bit of chocolate milk in there and something mildly fruity. Nothing much going on palate wise as you would expect but overall much better than I thought it would be. Couldn’t drink more than one though.
