Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
Contract brewed by Burtonwood for Ushers (Refresh UK).
By the turn of the 20th century Mild was very popular and bottled ales were growing fast. In 1902, Manns Whitechapel brewery produced the first bottled mild and brown ale was born.
Since the Fifties mass market brands of bitter and lager have grown strongly, at the expense of brown. With brown ale volumes in decline, most brewers withdrew their brands, Manns being a notable exception.

bottle from Costcutter Newton Abbot. Clear brown colour, mid-sized head. Malty nose. Light, flavours of malst (Bayerisch Blockmalz), roasted malt and caramel with some hints of fudge, toffee and licquorice. Very slightly hoppy. Good.

Deep, dark brown colour. Roasted malt aroma. Rather sweet, malty flavour. Quite full flavoured for a low alcohol beer but overall a tad too sweet.

Surprisingly tasty for its strength, Mann’s is malty with strong caramel flavours and a hint of chocolate. It’s nicely sweet and rather pleasant to drink.

Looks like coke. No head and smells of sweet malt and tastes of malt. Its flat in appearance and flat in taste but the flavour wasn’t too bad but still ended up pouring it down the sink.
