harrisoni (5605), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 4, 2008 Bottle at HogTownHarry Fest ’08. Lovely hop, deep roasted malts on aroma. Excellent US hops (I’m guessing). Just a stunning, roasty, beautifully balanced beer. Not a harsh roast. This is fantastically good. Just a 10 for aroma. Superb. God I love this. One of the best beers I’ve had. MesandSim (4713), Highgate, Greater London, England Jan 3, 2008 Updated: Jan 27, 2008A Mes rate: Take out bottle from the Marble Arch Inn.
Saw the New Year in with this one and it really was worth it. Purple black body with an excellent tight tan head that lasted as long as the beer did. Heavy chocolate aroma with some lovely creamy alcohol. Burnt crème brûlée like caramel, coffee, plums and other fruit are carried along wonderfully by some really nice malt. It’s the full on hoppage that makes it however. It gives it such poise and balance. I really could sniff at it all day. The flavour is that of a proper impy stout. Viscous, oily and vinous. The thick chocoalte malt is topped with some delicate but excellent resinous hops. A long, really long bitter chocolate and hop finish balances it really well and leaves you wanting more. The alcohol is wonderfully done. It’s obviously there but not at all over the top. The luxurious mouthfeel caps the whole experience really well. Very good indeed and easily the best Marble beer I have had. Due to its limited status, I’ll be picking up a few of these while I am back in Manchester again. yngwie (3893), Kristiansand, Norway Apr 29, 2008 Bottle. The pour is just lovely; jet black body and a nice tan head. Complex aroma with hocolate, roasted malt, some notes of tar, dried fruits and coffee. Really nice flavor too, with chocolate and coffee starting the ball, with a nice hoppy bitterness finishing it. In the middle there’s dried fruits and some sweetness. Some alcohol also entered the scene. Dry, warming mouthfeel. When swallowed, both coffee-like and hoppy bitterness occur. The beer is a bit thin-bodied, but it sure is a beauty. Yummy! Thx a lot for providing this one Tony. (080305) coldbrewky (536), Saugerties, New York, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle via reakt in trade. Nose is of gentle dark malts, chocolate bars and hot toffee. Body is acrid and bold. "For six long days and weary nights they tried to find her trail. Churchill told the people "put every ship to sail! Cause somewhere on that ocean I know she’s got to be!" Out of our exceptionally relaxed trade, this was the one I had my hopes up to arrive. As if by magic it was in the box. So to make sense of the above quote...reakt sank the Bismark. Body has just enough coffee for a biting yet gentle finish. This must be fantastic on draft. Fortunatly for me there is a direct flight to Manchester from Newark. ChristianScheffel (2331), Odense, Denmark Mar 30, 2008 Black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is both roast malt and dried fruit, with a hint of wood and smoke. Semi sweet and very roast flavour, with a bunch of hops, and a slightly burnt finish. Very well balanced and drinkable.
