DruncanVeasey (1737), No. 46, Leicestershire, Germany Oct 1, 2008 Cask, Victoria Inn Autumn Fest 08, Rugby. Pitch looks in the darkened back room. Rich spiritous roasty malt and Tia Maria/port aroma. Very obvious alcohol. Shit, is this primed with something? Juicy pruney dark fruit sweetness. Tastes way over 5. A bit much, but some balancing choc and smoke. Didn’t get any hops. Feel a bit cheated looking at some of the previous comments. One to revisit... fonefan (4884), Ulfborg, Denmark Jun 10, 2008 Cask gravity @ Reading Beer Festival 2008. Clear medium brown black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, burnt, peppery, moderate to light heavy hoppy, citrus, grape, ginger. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (020508) harrisoni (5359), Ashford, Kent, England Jun 3, 2008 Cask gravity at Reading BF 08. Slightly hoppy aroma. Black colour with dark brown edges. Intense malt aroma. That is a good stout. Good grainy choc and a lot of grapefruit hop. Just a great aroma. Intense flavours. Amazing and quite possibly my beer of the festival. Fin (2357), Merton, Oxfordshire, England May 4, 2008 Cask at Reading Beer Festival 02-05-08 following a two hour queue to get in grrrr! Pours black with beige bubbly med’ head. Stunning fresh hop aroma, loads of hoppy oilliness. Taste is hoppy and also there is a distinct but subtle smokiness to this, quite bitter, really nice citrussy pithiness to this. There is a nice roastiness to this nut its that citrus tang and lovely juiciness that make this unlike any other stout that I’ve encountered. Very good. Magic_dave6 (4012), London, Greater London, England Apr 2, 2008 Cask in 3 judges. Aroma is bursting with hops, typically marble grassy herbal citrus. Taste is similar with roasted and chocolate malt, quite bitter indeed, a very different stout.
