Tap at Blue Palms during LA Beer Week. I was not keen on this. Nose of wood, tannin and roast. Flavor is massively tannin-influenced and too sharp - way imbalanced and didn’t taste particularly like a porter. Swirling and warmth bring back some of the base beer but dear God is this strange.

Draft at Hamiltons. Jet black hue, thin tan head. Nose is big chocolate and coffee malts with hints of oak and vanilla. Flavor is sweet dark fruits with chocolate malts, hints of cherries, molasses, vanilla, oak, finishes sweet and boozy. Medium-full body, creamy texture, modest carbonation. A big barrel-aged porter that has a bit of heat but good overall balanced flavors, will likely improve with aging.

Tap @ Hamilton’s Tavern. Brew pours a very dark brown almost black with a creamy chocolate head. Tons of coffee and chocolate on the nose. Very full flavored and full bodied with creamy chocolate and a little booze on the finish. This was a great Imp Porter with a lot going on, very complex.

Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Caramel and malt aroma. Caramel and malt flavor with some nuttiness and light roast. Fuller bodied. Caramel, malt, and nuttiness lingers.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours a dark brown, almost black color. Pretty good porter. Strong malt, dark chocolate, smoke, roasted malt, hints of cocoa and nuts. A little bit of fruit and finishes with some earthy hops. Strong malt and smoke, good if your in the mood for it.
