Commercial Description:
Marin Brewing Company is proud to announce the release of a very special and very limited brew,"Cuvee Roge." Named after our longtime manager/bartender, Roge, this beer has been several years in the making. Cuvee Roge is an American Sour Ale inspired by the Gueze Lambics produced near Brussels in Belgium. Cuvee Roge is a blend of brews, some 1 year old, & some 3 1/2 years old. Both were aged in the same special Chardonnay barrel with a variety of "bugs" (microorganisms) commonly thought to be beer "spoilers." One month ago we blended & bottled the Cuvee, adding sugar & fresh yeast to create a bottle conditioned product. Only 264 champagne style bottles, 750mL each, were produced which will only be available at Marin Brewing Company, & only for on-premise consumption. Cuvee Roge is a refreshing & moderately sour beer with a complex array of aromas & flavors ranging from citrus to barnyard with wine-like qualities & a dry, nutty finish.

Sampled during RBSG 7/11/2009. This sour ale pours a light gold color from a 375ml(?) bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of funk. A medium bodied sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with a touch of funk. The hops are grapefruity. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice dry and funky finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and funky.

750ml bottle at the brewpub. I was very excited to be able to try this. Looks like a classic sour ale, hazy orange, gold with a thin white head. Aroma is excellent, perfume, grass, funk, white grapes, flowers, sweet, sour. Flavor is nice too, grass and wheat, flowers, hay, lemons, orange peel, slight oak, white grapes. Finish is dry and slightly sour. Nice job guys.

Bottle 75 cl. Hazy yellow with a small, off-white head. Tart, bretty aroma of Brett, barnyard and horse blanket - all the great sour characteristics. Rather light-bodied with dry and tart fruit notes and again lots of horse blanket on the palate also. Astringent and dry finish. Overall pretty fresh. 110709

Poured from 750 at brewpub, RBSG 2009. Cloudy, pale yellow. Nose was of fresh fruit, with a hint of grapefruit. Taste was mildly sour, crisp, dry. Nice little glass included with the bottle.

Pours bright golden with no head. Nose is tart grapefruit and light oak. Flavor is more subtle than the nose, but tart citrus as well. Lasting finish is the best attribute.

75cl bottle at the brewery during RBSG09. Hazy blond color with a creamy white head. Supper bretty and sour aroma, bringing the funk, lemon, straw, and just a hint of chlorine. Medium-sour flavor with a crisp lemon bite and light grainy malt. There is a cleanliness in the flavor that is more straight-forward than the aroma. Medium-light in body with a dry finish. Pretty good stuff. Miles better than the Grand Funk.
