Commercial Description:
"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That's right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

Pours with a largish, soapy, off-white head covering a clear, burnt orange body with lots of little bubbles. Decent lacing, a very nice retention. Aroma is big with spicey and citrus hops, as well as a very sweet malt smell. Some vanilla and raspberry hidden underneath. Taste is much maltier upfront than I would have expected, the beer is both bitter and sweet in the finish. Chewy but clean, beautiful hoppiness. Oily mouthfeel with brisk carbonation. Alcohol makes no appearance. Slightly above average DIPA.

Seemed to be the perfect brew to consume after a 53 mile ride. A- Looks absolutely perfect for a DIPA. Deep orange with a thick, chewy, 2 finger head which leaves lacing as it falls. Crystal Clear. S- Smell is very resiny and piney. Definitely a kick of hops to the face. Distinct freshly baked bread sweetness in the end. T- Taste starts off with the bready sweetness and a wave of piney hops rushes over the palate and transitions into a strong bitter hoppiness. M- Thick and chewy with medium to low amount of carbonation. D- I really want to try a fresher bottle of this but this was a treat. Very balanced for the style.

Thanks xnoxhatex! Typical IIPA pour, dark orange with a big fluffy white sudsy head. Great citrus and pine hop aroma with sweet malts balancing it out. Flavor follows suit with a very balanced amount of citrus, pine/resin, saltiness and sweet sugary malts. Quite fresh. Great medium light body with just the right carbonation. Must try again!

On tap at O’Brien’s Taproom in San Diego, CA--Deep amber body with a small, fluffy white head. Resinous, bitter and sweet nose. Malty, biscuity. Finished very hoppy and a bit cloying, bitter and piny.

Big thanks to Zinister for hooking me up with this brew. Super bitter and the malty flavor to back it up. Sweet as well. Impressed by the flavor alone. Poured into a snifter, perfect color (dark amber) good head, good lacing. Medium texture. More about the flavor...Sweet and bitter citrus hops. Grassy. Kind of reminds me of Souther Tiers Unearthly and Gemini DIPA. Smooth and easy to drink. Another great Cali quality brew! Thanks mike for the beer!

Bottle from South Bay D&L. Surprisingly clear orange copper color with two finger head. Hops jump out of the glass...fresh grapefruit, pine and resin and other citrus aromas make this wonderful. Biscuit malts poke through too. The taste is very crisp and clean with caramel and biscuit malts doing a great job of balancing out the rich hops presence. Pine, oranges, grapefruit....fantastic. One of the most approachable DIPAs I’ve had yet.

Pours clear copper, with a one inch head of tight froth. Off-white streaks and ropes of lacework left after each sip. A full skim coat of foam lingers. Aromatics are pungent and floral. A blast of pink grapefruit, pine resin, tropical fruit, and some husky malt make a substantial statement. Orange-spritzed spruce boughs with smashed grapefruit pith. Sticky, tacky mouthfeel. Crisp and a bit chewy. Ripe citrus fruit, earthy conifers, and resinous hop juice lead off the pallet. Grapefruit, tangerine, pine sap, and a leafy crispness. Light malt, warming alcohol, and bitter grapefruit follow through. Finishes with lingering a drying bitterness, fruit zest, and warming alcohol. What a great beer. The malt balance is perfect. Just enough to keep the brew from being too dry and one-dimensional, yet not too much to make the beer heavy or sweet.
