Commercial Description:
"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That's right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

Very fragrant - with a medium pour I can smell the citrus and fruity smells from 1 foot away. Floral hops with just a touch of dankness in the first taste, ending on a bitter note that fades quickly. There’s almost a rusty note somewhere in the hop bouquet - I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. ON SECOND ANALYSIS: On tap this is a totally different beer. Search this one out - its worth it! Very dank, and yet floral at the same time. Hard hitting and almost cannabis-like in flavor.

22oz Bomber I get the opportunity to sample White Knuckle thanks to jhenry04, thanks Jason! Pours a glowing lightly tarnished copper with great transparency. Explosions of tiny carbonation bubbles shoot to the surface. The dirty white head rose to two fingers on the pour and quickly became meringue like as it fell. Finally settling with a thick middle cap and ring. Leaves big patchy lacing after each drink. This is a really good looking IIPA! The aroma is dominated by hoppy goodness but the malt is no slouch either. Big pungent resinous hops tickle the nose. There’s a sprinkling of citric hoppiness present but the resinous hoppiness takes the lead and makes my mouth water. A touch of caramel and biscuity maltiness manage to squeeze through the big hops. Flavor is just as the nose suggested and I’m loving every drink. Caramel and biscuity maltiness lay the foundation for a great resiny hoppiness. Pine needles make a brief appearance but sweetened orange and grapefruit come along on the finish. This is an excellent IIPA and one of my new favorites! Medium body with an increibly light and fluffy mouthfeel. The carbonation is perfect and moves things through at just the right pace. Finishes dry with a tongue stomping bitterness that grows bigger the more you drink. The drinkability is excellent for such a big hoppy brew. This bomber is disappearing far too fast and all I want to do is take drink after drink. Every swallow leaves my mouth watering for the next. White Knuckle just became one of my favorite IIPAs. Everything about this beer is great from the looks to the drinkability, but most importantly, it’s delicious! Who wants to send me some more? 3/8/08

Pours murky orange color with white bubbly head. The nose isn’t really there, small hints of hops and citrus when you get your nose close enough. Flavor is a little bit of hops and then an explosion of citrus. Very wet finish for a DIPA, very smooth and drinkable. Solid would definately drink again. Recommended

22oz bottle, picked up from BevMo on VanNess in SF. Pours clearish burnt orange color. Frothy, sticky white head that hangs around the edges and leaves moderate lace. The nose is potent on this one. Dark and hoppy, resiny and earthy. A bit of alcohol in the nose as well. Tastes grassy hoppy, hop oily, and citrusy orangey. The oily hoppiness hangs around in the aftertaste for quite a while, enjoyable. Thick somewhat oily on the palate, carbonation is somewhat subdued. Take your time with this one, savor it. I didn’t like the first bottle but the second one is much better. Complex.

Also I believe this was shared by BrianK. Pretty sweet hops with some citrus and earthy hops too. Taste is nice creamy hops aiding in nice body. Lingers a bit but not too bad.

I believe this was shared by BrianK. Light touches of haze in this amber colored beer. Aroma is very fruity with grapefruit, orange, as well as a good deal of pine. Taste is very hoppy, with some pungent pine, light floral and heavy citrus. Heavy on the bitterness Body is medium to full and the carbonation is in line for the style. Finishes hoppy with a long lasting bitter finish. Awesome IIPA for a hophead such as myself.

From a 22 oz bottle, this poured a rich red to copper with a nice fat white head and good lacing. Nose is strongly citrus hops, with hints of spices and flowers. Very rich and excellent mouthfeel. Flavor of caramel malts balanced with the hops perfectly. Long bitter finish. Wonderful to drink.

2007 PP SAF. Copper color. Aroma of sweet citrus and fruit punch. Nice spicey bitterness with some herbal hop funk and some toasted malt. Lots of juicy citrus and resin, oily, hoppy awesome! Good stuff. Hella drinkable!
