Commercial Description:
"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That's right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

On tap at Toronado in a tulip glass. Opaque reddish amber color, khaki head that left a uniform layer of lacing on the glass, cool effect. Aroma is BAM! intense, it’s saying "get ready for this you weakling", lots of citrus and pine. Taste is of creamy caramel malt, alcohol covered up by chewy sweetness, big bitterness at the end, almost hard to swallow. Not much carbonation, almost syrupy at times. Hophead central...

Thanks to Stoutlover for sending this to me. The pour is a deep golden brown color with a white head that leaves good lacing. The aroma is a nice citrus hop aroma. The palate is full and smooth. Citrus tastes up front yield to the bitter hops--that get more bitter as they linger in your mouth. Has a nice roasted malt flavor behind it all.

An unclear amber beer with a fast disappearing orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit, and lesser notes of hops. The flavor is sweet malty with quite a lot of hops, but also a good deal of fruit - of which oranges are the most dominant.

(Bottle 65 cl) Hazy, amber golden with a creamy, off-white head. Very fresh, citrusy nose. Medium body with a solid, lightly sweet caramel base and then a distinct hop finish. Thanks to Storm for sharing. 151206 and 290307

Thanks to Springslicker for this one. Cloudy reddish orange with a thin but sturdy white head. Earthy, smokey, resiny, piney hop aroma. Flavor leans heavily towrd hops - peppery, floral, perfumey hops. Lots of ’em. Some mildly sweet undertones keep it from being one demensional. Smokey note as it warms. Good stuff.

Quick thankyou to Kook for lobbing this one back from the U.S. Served up at backyard patio temperature at a small tasting here in Perth.
Poured a pale, yellow tinged orange-amber with a big fluffy white head that held daubing the glass well in its wake. Big, fresh, ripe, tangy oranges, peaches, grapefruit and all manner of fruity esters on the nose. A superb display of U.S. hops here, the first and possibly last of the beers on the night to truly harness these. Underpinning’s of savoury marmalade, rose petals and pine nuts give it layer upon layer of volatiles that tickle the nose with such depth. Very nice indeed!!!
Big hops also in the mouth, very fresh, resinous and ripe. A broad toasted malt base is joined by a light salty cracker and piney charge upfront that offers a good balance to the tangy edge that grabs hold around the mid-palate. Lime and grapefruit work the saliva from there on in, a subtle grassy note comes in late and the peak shows some nicely positioned, deeply resinous, floral and tangy hops that dry it all out, oil it all up and add fuel to the 8% ABV swallow. It shows good length and good balance as it goes. It’s not aggressive or harsh. The body is firm, not heavy and it’s creamy upon the tongue. I liked this. I liked this a lot. A sessionable and equally sippable big IIPA. Nice stuff. (1 pint, 6Fl.Oz, Date unknown)
