Commercial Description:
"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That's right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

Nice head of medium sized bubbles. Little frothy on top. Good carbonation. Head reforms nicely upon swirling. Decent lacing. Great hoppy aroma with plenty of flowers, citrus and some malt for balance. Color is a slightly cloudy dark amber. Flavor is quite smooth and very well balanced. Maybe even better balanced then, dare I say it, Dreadnaught! Good medium bodied with plenty of malts to balance the hops. Nice bitterness, not overpowering and offsets the slight sweetness very well. Resinous in the mouth with a slight alcohol warming. Some spruce and light caramel. Did I say that this beer is superbly well balanced. Damn this stuff is good. Finish is a little creamy and has a nice bitter aftertaste although it is short-lived. A top notch Imperial IPA!!!

Nice thick creamy off-white head with great lacing. Hazy/cloudy slightly dirty copper body. Very nice and balanced aroma of caramel hops (grapefruit, lemon). A little bit of musty yeast in there to. Nothing really sticks out in the flavor... its balanced. Quite a bit of watery citrus (lemon) hops, some yeasty hops, and a nice caramelly malt backbone. This is well put together and is much more drinkable than the Dreadnaught. I’d also love to age one of these.

Honey sweetness and a mild new upholstery smell. weird. Deep golden yellow w/ good head and no lacing. Bittery and sweet w/ hints of honey and butter. Good effervesence and light bodied.

Color, a bright, full-on orange, totally opaque, under a full, flush, creamy off-whitish head. Aroma: outsized grapefruit & citrus at the onset, huge hops aplenty, fresh and fierce, though friendly, starting a fine commotion in the nose. Big flavor too, and creamy, too. Hops continue to deliver a tasty buzz, with a unique flavor, still highly citric, yet balanced quite adequately by the malts. Every part rises up to match the others and produces a most remarkable ale! Fruit factor is never-ending, fresh, delicious, juicy, tasty, zingy...finish is the same, and lasts just long enough. Medium to full body, thoroughly invigorating texture. 8% ABV didn’t register much in this tasting...wait, now, there it is, okay...yeah, it’s nice, though...yuuummm... Top-notch IPA, ranks up there with the best I’ve ever tried!

Gorgeous milky caramel orange peachy color, small pinky high, tight, creamy puff of dark ivory on top, exquisite lacing of delicately spun sheeting coats the entire glass. Keeps a good skim the whole glass down too. Impressive glass of hopped brew if I ever saw one. Aroma is extraordinarily balanced with a superb, right off the vine, fresh hop cone eluding to citric laced, thickly settled pine resin and floral spice. Malts remain intact with a nice caramel and toffeeness thats soft and well rounded in fulfilling a good nose full of interesting action. Malty smooth flavors up front of soft, easy flowing caramel mixed with a bit of butterscotch keeping a sweet and soothing character. Hops begin to emerge near midway with a solid, yet unbiting and unbittered hop flavor of floral hops with nuances of pine sap. Subsides more to the sweeter malt side with the the hops keeping a slight drying effect and slight bittering within the sweetness. Very inticingly yummy. Feel is smooth and firm with lots of malty sweetness coating all over the place. Hops leave traces of dried floral stuff in the finish. Body is dead-on medium in my book, no more, no less; perfect. The pinnacle of drinkability, way to smooth for a Dbl. IPA, dangerously so; yummily so! Balanced with a terrific malting and just the right amount of hop action. The doctor is in and this is the perscription for a hophead who craves a sweeter tooth.

22 oz. Bomber. Pours hazy orangey-amber color with a fairly thick, off-white head that lingered nicely and reappeared easily with a gentle swirl. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit and bold citrus hops, yet a sweet maltiness is detectable also. Flavor is initially sweet - for just a moment before the potent hops kick in. Theres still a nice rich malty undertone all the way through to the lingering pine and grapefruit rind aftertaste, though overall I found the taste a bit unbalanced. The alcohol is amazingly well hidden as well. Thick, full body - almost syrupy - and virtually no carbonation on the tongue. Nice IIPA.

Got this in a trade with DarkElf. Pours a cloudy dark amber brown with a rocky off-white head. Aroma is pure hop and pine bliss. Taste is pretty sweet with strong notes of pine, resin, hops, grapefruit/citrus and some bready qualities. Bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is full and round but not as thick as I would have expected, more on the medium side. The lacing hangs on the glass in sheets, great head retention. Nice brew.
