Commercial Description:
"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That's right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

On tap at City Beer. Pours hazy orange amber with a nice off-white head. Hoppy pine and citrus nose. Flavor is big on hops, but has a nice fruity caramel sweetness. Mouthfeel is nice and thick with a citrus hop finish.

Bomber. Pours hazy copper orange with a thin creamy beige head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is mostly citrus hops, oranges and honey with some caramel. Flavor is sweet and citrusy. More honey flavors than caramel. Grapefruit dominates. Lots of malt makes it almost barley wine like. Long, bitter grapefruit finish. Palate is sticky with very little carbonation.

22oz bottle thanks to joey for this bonus off my wantlist.... pours a mostly cloudy apricot brown with a thin soapy white head....vibrant citrus hop nose, most noticeable is the juicy grapefruit and floral hops. some malts presence as well.... pretty well balanced dipa with adequate weight on both the hops and malt. sweet caramel malt and citrus hops upfront while the finish maintains a average degree of grapefruit rind bitterness in the finish which remains on the palate long after the sip. i think this is put together pretty well and exemplifies what i enjoy in the style.

Bomber. Big thanks to doubleo for this one. Pours clear copper with big cream colored head. Nice lacing. Big aroma of grapefruit, hops, other citrus and some malt. Flavor is bitter citrus hops, caramel and some sweet malts. Big props for not being afraid to use lots of hops. Pretty good stuff.

Good balance of hop and bitter. Finishes really bitter with a touch of sweet. Nice creamy head. Tastes of tangerines.

Bomber. Pours a mostly clear, dark, brassy copper color. A lasting blanket of cream colored foam leaves obtuse spots and flares on the glass. The aroma shows a bold grapefruit and orange blossom hop profile, along with a countering malt base of toffee and cereal grains. A good bit of unfortunate soapiness clouds things up. Flavors show more bitter citrus hops, with hints of vegetal kafir lime leaves and more soapy notes. The malts are more grainy than anything, with hints of caramel and toffee lending minimal sweetness. The mouthfeel is substantial and lightly carbonated, with some astringency coming through on the back end. This brew is grossly overrated in my opinion. It’s decent, but there are multiple, unforgiveable flaws.

Poured a clear amber color with a thick, fluffy white head that was slow to recede and produced sticky webs of lacing. The aroma is orange, grapefruit, pine, light floral and grass. The flavor is tart citrus up front with earthy, grassy hops coming out as it opened up. Plenty of sweet, sticky malts offer good balance against the hops. Nice mouthfeel. I find the grassy hops they used to be a tad distracting, but that’s just me, overall it’s quite nice.
