The aroma is orange, grapefruit, pine, light floral and grass. The flavor is tart citrus up front with earthy, grassy hops coming out as it opened up. Plenty of sweet, sticky malts offer good balance against the hops. Nice mouthfeel. I find the grassy hops they used to be a tad distracting, but that’s just me, overall it’s quite nice. Nose is very clean, lots of citrus and earth mixed with significant spice reminiscent of Cinnamon. Flavor is quite similar, lots of spice drowning out fresh hop notes. Rather thin palate but loads of carbonation. Interesting beer, a little like a amateur’s attempt at Hitachino Classic. It’s drinkable, but I can’t say I’d enjoy a case of it. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA

Big skunky nose with lots of hops and grapefruit peel. Big thick hop flavors. Full mouthfeel. Decent amount of hops, maybe even some roastiness. Hops do dominate though. Very tasty. marcus (1874), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2009 On tap at Bistro DIPA Fest. This amber ale poured with a nice beige head and a sharp pine aroma. The ample caramel malt base yields more sweetness than usual for a DIPA, but the malt is slightly overwhelmed by a massive hop presence. Overall, a tasty brew, though not a typical DIPA. I initially wanted to cough after my first sip but I held back and manned up to the overload of flavors. The appearance was a thick and sticky head and medium brass color. Finishing dry and bitter while my mouth quenched for a glass of water. Nik925 (305), California, USA

Subsequent sniffs yield a malty background. The color is a great, clear orange. The flavor is fruity, hoppy, good malt backbone. This is pretty tasty stuff although it does seem a little sugary. Nice brew.
