Marin Hefe Doppel Weizen

Bomber shared by eric last week. Pours a very light pale gold and very cloudy with a thin head. Aroma is mostly wheat malt, with light clove phenols, some vanilla and light banana. Light to medium wheat flavor, and modest amounts of phenols. SLightly tart and acidic finish, and the alcohol is hidden well. Seemed to be a bit more toned down for a high abv weizen though. Heavyweight bog weisse is the closest equivalent I can think of, and the HW is a significantly mroe intense with phenols and esters- closer to the true weizenbocks of germany.

Appears a hazy light gold with a small white head that seems to slowly fade out. Little spots of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of huge creamy wheat, bubblegum, banana, light citrus, and fruity esters. Taste is of the same great aromas but there is a mild bit of soapiness fill wheat preventing this from entering the upper level of great wheat beer. Mouthfeel is slightly thin with some mild citrus notes coming through. I seemed to like the bottom of the bottle the best. Seems to be less of the off flavor and some nice sweet and crisp balance deep down in there.

22oz bottle shared courtesy of egajdzis (thanks!). Poured a medium to deep and cloudy golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas of banana, wheat, cloves, and some citrus. Tastes where mainly of wheat with some citrus. Very wheaty. Tastes was somewhat of a let down compared to the aroma. Body on the thinner side.

Poured a hazy, yellow orange color with a medium sized, white head that left very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, light banana, and some spices. Taste was wheaty, light citrus, grainy with low sweetness, and a light, dry bitterness. Soft mouthfeel.

Bottle. A hazed golden yellow color with a white head. Much lighter in color than I would have expected. It has a malty flavor while making you think it will have a rich hefe citrus character. Yet it mocks you with none of the best qualities of either a hefe or bock. A strong banana aroma with a corn flavor.

This was an interesting little complex hybrid, and I love experimentation when it comes to beer styles so this one really appealed to me. The aroma is quite sweet, and somewhat floral and perhaps just a little spicy. Nice banana and clove, with a really clean aftertaste. Thick and yeasty and full of citrus, this malt background is somewhat sweet and kind of showing in the alcohol department.

Kind of straddling a very imaginary boundary between hefeweizen and weizen bock. Opaque yellowish colour with creamy white head. Beautiful hefe banana, marshmallow and icing sugar aroma. Big body - the alcohol shows through the weizen rather strongly. The base weizen flavours are of a sweet, moderately complex and relatively clean example. I’m just put off by the fact that it seems only the alcohol was ratcheted up to create this hybrid.

nice wheaty beer. poured a huge white head. Was pretty thick i guess yeasty, i thought it was pretty good at first but as drank more of it seemed rather average.
