| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2004 This beer was had on tap at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival 2004, although the listing shows that their batch was a 10.2% alcohol by volume offering. This beer poured a reddish mahogany color with a thin creamy white head with minimal lacing and a decent amount of visible carbonation. The aroma was very astringently fruity! Oranges and nectar were right in your face in the nose with a slight hint of hops. The aroma was not the easiest thing in the world to figure out and it might be worth a re-rate on that note alone. The flavor is sweet with finishes of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel and a slight hint of spices in the finish...a pinch ginger or peppery. Extremely sweet finish as it warmed and aside from a fruity ester or two it became incredibly one-sided in its dimensions. It ended fairly grapey and vinous but only after it had warmed considerably and become a completely different beer. Ompher has it correct that this beer is definitely all over the place...perhaps a little aging and an addition of actual hops might add some depth to this beer. bu11zeye (5672), Frisco, Texas, USA

Alcoholic aroma with tones of amine and smoke.
Hoppy flavour with alcohol tones. Sweet with long bitterness.
Burt where is power. This is as weak as a toothless tiger. Truly a beginners barley. Barley wine should be no holds barred period omhper (12299), Stockholm, Sweden

Very full bodied. The mouthfeel is bold and clumsy. Sweet, yet salty, raw and grainy. There’s loads of alcohol, and also loads of other flavour, but all is in a mess that I can’t sort out.
