On tap. Pours a hazy dark brown with a tint of orange and a creamy beige head leaving some lacework. Sweet aroma of dried fruit, prunes and dates. Quite full-bodied, heavy on the dried fruit flavours with lots of burned caramel and brown sugar. No bitterness - absolutely no bitterness. A bit of a sugar bomb - and a bit too much, even for me. 110709

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Roasted malt and light spiced phenolic. Sweet caramel malt flavoured, light fruity and distinct yeasty phenolic trappist note. Sweet and lingering malty flavoured finish. Smooth and classic Belgian on the yeast profile.

clear dark red, wispy off white head, nice lace, light sweet malt aroma, big sweet malt flavor, lots of candy sweetness, touch of fruity character, nice light bitterness in the finish but not enough to counteract the sweetness, still a good sipper even with the sweetness

opaque dark rusty red, sweet dark fruit and raison aroma, sweet candied fruit flavor, gritty brown sugar character, sweetness has mellowed nicely and better balanced even though there is no more apparent bitterness, nice chocolate blends well with the fruit,

Bottle (3 Liter)... O-Town Throwdown Part Deux... Pours a hazy, deep amber with a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is acidic, yet malty and wafts caramel, vinous notes, funk and rawhide. Odd flavor of golden raisins and caramel. Sweet, but funky too. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and controlled carbonation. Sweet, caramel finish. Thanks to FlacoAlto for shipping this out so quickly for the Throwdown!

On tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival: Pours a clear dark copper with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. One-dimensional aroma of sweet caramely candy malt with a hint of Belgian yeast. Body starts sweet and sugary with a slightly doughy caramel sugar cookie flavor and some Belgian yeast. Could use some more balance and complexity.

Sample from a 3 liter bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan diminishing head. Smells of sugar and dark fruit. Taste is of sugar, syrup, dark fruit and very boozy. Finish is lightly peppery. Not terrible, but not a quad.

Multiple samples, GABF 2006. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel), with notes of banana, clove, sugar. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Overwhelming sweetness, simple as a whole. Not compelling.

10th Annual SD Strong Ale Fest: Poured a clear dark brown color with a ruby tint and small off-white head. Some Belgian yeasty estery character. The flavor was some nice fruity esters over a toffee malt base. Notes of golden raisins, apples and a sweet finish. Medium bodied. The alcohol is well hidden.
