22 oz bomber. Deep dark brown in color with a nice off white fluffy head that left a nice lacing on the glass. Chocolatety roasty malty aroma. Coffee like roasty notes. Bittersweet chocolate flavor. Caramel notes. Sweet tasting. Full bodied. Well balanced beer. Smooth tasting. Rich. Nice beer.

12/20/2007: San Quentins Breakout Stout pours a near-black brown color. The huge foamy mocha/cocoa-colored head is volcanic on the pour and then lasts a very long time as it SLOWLY receeds. The aroma is yeasty chocolate with hints of coffee. Some of the yeastiness will probably dissipate after the head collapses somewhat... The flavor is semi-sweet chocolate and smooth black coffee. There is plenty of residual sweetness as well as some roasted malt flavors. The alcohol is super well-hidden behind all of the the sweet chocolate flavor! The medium to medium-full body is quite soft, smooth and silky on the palate.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (Alcohol 7.0% by Volume) from 5000. Thank you very much Andre. I appreciate it! Rating #168 for this beer...

22 oz bottle. Took me by surprise and shot up a big tan head that slowly died leaving specks of foam. Virtually black. Nose is dark chocolate and dark roast with some musty orange. Body stops short of medium, like fizzy chocolate milk. After the carb subsided there were nice touches of mocha, tobacco and orange peel.

Black, tan creamy head. Nose held soft coffee notes that fade into roasty milk chocolate and vanilla tones. Flavor follows suit with mild roasted vanilla coffee and milk chocolate balancing on a light hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry, bittersweet finish. A nice session stout in my book. Thanks for sharing, Ryan!

This is not a bad beer. It’s probably the best I can remember at straddling the line between a sweet stout and a stout. A very sweet coffe/dark chocolate flavor, but the size isn’t huge. That helps for smoothness, of course.

22oz bottle, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a dark brown color; dark tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Very pleasant coffee and chocolate and oily nuttiness in the aroma; not overly sweet but generous. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: plenty of coffee and bittersweet / milk chocolate; slightly oily and nutty in the palate, though not overly so; a tasty, drinkable coffee-infused stout. Medium, chocolate and roasted coffee finish.

Pours with a creamy tan M&M head that lasts throughout the tasting. Aroma is dense cold coffee and cocoa bean. Nothing overwhelmingly complex, no strange esters, just clean coffee and chocolate cocoa. Taste is very straightforward too. A little bit thin in the follow through, but the creaminess of the beer tries to compensate for this fact. Decent, but high marks for aroma and appearance make this beer look better than it is.
