Big, brown head that disappears almost immediately. Black. Rich, deep dark malty taste (coffee again ... some hints of chocolate, but mostly roasty). Very, very smooth. Finishes relatively dry and slightly astringent. Big mouthfeel. Ever so slightly hot. Very pleasant. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Pours an opaque syrupy black, with a foamy tan ring. Noise is a very apparent and full of molasses, maple and dates, with just a hint of graham cracker crust. Flavor matches the nose, with some creamy roastiness, raisins, apples and dark fruits, perhaps some prunes. Also has some nice acidity and a pretty decent finish. Not my favorite stout, but am very happy to have tried it, annoying when it comes to the very end, and it warms to an almost cola taste. Oakes (8115), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2006 On tap at the brewery More or less black in colour with light brown head. Roasty, malty and even a bit tangy aroma. Smooth body, rich with chocolate and roast. A little bit of nuttiness, too. Decent bitterness but otherwise no particular hop character. This is a classic rich and meaty American stout. HopheadHans (755), Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark with a huge head. Not much of an aroma to it, just a little hint of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor though is great, with lots of molasses, chocolate and malts in a medium body.
The finish is fairly sweet for a stout. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2006 Body is slightly thin, but jet black in color with a roasted coffee head. Deep aromas of molasses, along with some vanilla. Texture is a little on the thin side, but the flavors are delicious. Prune, raisin, cinnimon, and of course, roasted coffee and malt notes. The finish is also yummy; an oaky Jack Daniel’s comes to mind. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA

Aroma dominated by chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. The flavor is bold. Malty, roasty, with the coffee and chocolate brining up the rear. Creamy mouthfeel. A great beer all around.
