brettpace (174), Northridge, California, USA May 26, 2007 This is an interesting beer, much different than most stouts I have had. This has a winey smell and flavor component, along with the roasted malts. This is a very smooth beer.
Beerlando (1563), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2009 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Pouring virtually black, with faint glints of mahogany at the far reaches, the body is capped with a foamy, dark brown head. Minimal, spotty lacing marks the glass. The aroma is dry and roasty, notes of dark cocoa, scorched barley, and rich coffee showing well. A hint of burnt caramel sweetness shows on a deep inhale, as does some estery yeast. Flavors show more of the same, dark, bitter roast dominating all else, with just a touch of balancing cocoa and caramel sweetness. The yeast is quite lactic, which contributes to the dryness of the semi-full, smooth body. This is quite a nice stout, particularly for those who prefer dry, roasty character to overwhelming sweetness. Beardface (344), Eugene, Oregon, USA Dec 25, 2008 Pours black with a gigantic tan head, one of the biggest I have ever seen. Heavy roasted malt aroma with a huge roast, coffee and chocolate taste. A solid roasted aftertaste rolls around on the tongue long after you have quaffed it all Excellent stout. SoCaliente (5), Thousand Oaks, California, USA does not count Nov 30, 2008 You’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference between this ale and Moylan’s Kilter Lifter Scottish Style Ale.
This sister label version lacks as much smoky bite. doubleo (1000), San Diego, California, USA Nov 19, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours black with a moderate light brown head. Smells big and roasty and chocolatey. Tastes dry and roasty with lots of sweet chocolatey roastiness. Very dry and very tasty. Full body, good carbonation. buzzoven (183), Japan Oct 30, 2008 Generous chocolate on the nose, deep black colour and a nice firm frothy head. Flavour is heavy on the roasted aspects and some wheat and barley mixed in with coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Add a little bit of cacao and espresso and you have a fine stout in your hands...now drink it, you scrub!
