mullet (769), Melbourne, Australia Nov 20, 2004 Very pale and clear. Yeast sediment in bottle.
Bready yeastiness in the aroma which would probably be great in a sparkling wine but it’s not that great here. Definitely smells (and tastes) like it’s made with dessert apples. Some carrot and a bit of smoky Calvados.
Dry with a light fruity sweetness, soft acidity, some bitterness in a fairly alcoholic finish. Kinda turns watery half-way through. Pretty insipid.
There’s probably a place for these boring champagne-style ciders made with dessert apples, though they aren’t really my thing, but where the Henry of Harcourt ciders cost $5 a bottle, this one cost $17.50. For that kind of money you can get a "proper" cider from Kellybrook of Thorogoods or a decent bottle of wine.
